The village of Østby with Østby church is located in the east of Trysil municipality, close to the Swedish border, about 20 km from Innbygda/Trysil center.
Østby church is a small long church with a ridged roof over the west gable, built in 1940 according to a design by the Norwegian Building Inspectorate. Inside, the church was renovated in 1970 and in 1978. Then the church got new pews and a new choir opening, as well as a new pulpit. On the west wall is an iron stove. The altarpiece was painted by Finn Krafft in 1949 and is a painting of the Ascension where Christ stands in a mandorla. The frame has a simple portal shape with a straight archetype supported by two pilasters. Originally, the altarpiece was a wooden cross with three-shaped cross arms.
