Children's encounter with the ski slope can seem a bit overwhelming for both the child and its parents. Suddenly, you too may feel like a beginner. How should you proceed so that the child's first encounter with boots, skis, helmet and lift is experienced positively?

In such a situation, it can be welcome to have a few tips from someone who has done this before. The ski school in Trysil has extensive experience in giving young children a good first encounter with the challenges of the ski slope. Here are some smart tips:

Tip 1: Play with the boots and helmet at home

It is smart to let the children get to know the equipment at home first. Let them play with the boots and try to put them on and take them off. The same goes for the most important piece of equipment, namely the helmet. If they are safe with the equipment at home, it will be significantly easier the day you visit the ski resort for the very first time.

Tip 2: Play and fun are the most important of all

Play and fun are the two most important elements when teaching children's to ski. When children are young, it is essential that they enjoy snow and enjoy having the equipment on. Tobogganing, playing with the lift carousel, watching Valle – there are plenty of fun activities to choose from! Taking the lift and skiing is just a bonus.

Tip 3: Start in a children's area

It is important to have a well-adapted environment where the children's needs are the main focus. A good children's area is just as suitable for prams as for children with skis, and it should be a short distance to the heated shelter, toilets and dining.

Tip 4: Park your car close by

It is smart to park as easy and close as possible to get from the car to the slopes. When you arrive at the ski resort, please bear in mind about parking your car as easily as possible in relation to where you are staying. This not only provides a good start, but also a good ending when a tired 3-year-old is going home after a long and enjoyable day on the slopes.

Tip 5: Ask the staff

Those who work in the children's areas are there to help. Ask the staff in the lifts, in the ski school and in the ski rental if you have any questions or are unsure. They have experience with kids on the slopes, and are keen to assist wherever they can!

Tip 6: Ski passes are free for children under 7

Did you know that all children under the age of 7 ride for free when they wear a helmet? At each hill there is a separate Valle entrance for the little ones.

Good luck with play and fun for the whole family! Remember not to give up – challenges are there to be solved.
